Everybody knows, or should know, that a fruit tree or plant will not produce more good fruit unless it is pruned every year. That goes for even a non-woody plant like tomatoes. (A fruit, not a vegetable!) If you dont pinch-off the little bud leaves that grow in the stem armpits the fruiting will be mostly more greenery. When fruit plants are attacked they panic and want to make more seed. Humans are like that, too. They feel threatened and want to make sure their genetic code is saved and passed on. In times of war, strife and even famine, the birth rates accelerate. I can imagine how many births there will be next year in places like Gaza, Mosul, Damascus and Ferguson, Missouri.
