Everybody who knows me already knows my passion, drive and commitment to unionism. I am always saddened when i see such a poor turn out at meetings, and that is why when elected this is one of the first issues i intend to tackle, the why. There has to be a reason, so lets find out what it is and see if we can fix it. If you do not ask you will never have the answer. Another issue i intend to address is our poor old website. This site should be our showcase one that we can be proud of. Are you proud of our website? We then need a secure log in area were we can put out information that we want our members to have. This should include such things as, minutes from meetings, upcoming events and yes some financial information. This local collects and spends a lot of monies every year, you as members should be aware of how we spend your money. Yes you can go down to the office and look. But lets be honest here if you have a share in any company, the co-op say you get reports posted out and on line, are we any different? Lastly but by no means least we should also have WEEKLY officer reports not monthly. This will have the effect of opening up our office. I am not suggesting pages and pages just a simple this is what i did this week type report. This will help in several ways, the member knows what there officers are doing, also it gives the officers the opportunity to respond far quicker to any attacks. (not that we have any of those). Some people may think these ideas radical and site that the office has always had poor responses to questionares etc. I draw you back to lack of attendance at meetings, get that up we get involvement up. Remember our future lies in the new members, fail to engage these and our union will be dead in a very few short years. A vote for me means that we will start looking to our future.
