Everyone, Lots of great things going on board. Since my last major update, we had 18 shipmates take their Service Wide Exams. We should know in a couple months how they fared - but I think we can all guess :) We were supposed to have 19 crewmembers take the exam, but I am pleased to announce that GM2 Robert McLaughlin is above the cut and will be advanced to Gunners Mate First Class this year (with a fourth daughter on the way I am sure the extra cash will come in handy!). Fireman Jacob Gonzalez has been selected for the 2014 CGC MOHAWK (WMEC-913) FN Eric Lanus Outstanding Shipmate Award! This award and a $100 gift card are presented by the Wardroom every year to an enlisted member E3 and below in memory of FN Eric Lanus, who perished in a housing fire on February 8th, 2009. FN Lanus was an extremely motivated member of the MOHAWK crew. His enthusiasm, infectious positive attitude, and desire to perform set the bar for his shipmates. Fireman Gonzalez demonstrated great enthusiasm, a positive attitude, and outstanding performance in his duties. During the past year, he completed over 300 hours of Preventative Maintenance. He helped qualify 12 shipmates in their qualifications and he has shown an enthusiasm in advancing by striking MK. His name will be added to the FN Lanus plaque installed in the Main Ships Passageway. Congratulations on his selection! It has been slow operationally, but the pace of operations has simply allowed us to focus on training and maintenance objectives. I do plan to have a chat with King Neptune though and ask him to calm the seas down a bit for us - well see how that chat goes. My best to you all, Adam Morrison
