Everyone, Our inport period is roughly half over at this point, so I thought Id recap some great accomplishments to date: (1) Boat Standardization Inspection: We nailed it. Our boat operations program was highly scrutinized and we walked away with a great assessment. Not only were our talented men and women evaluated, but also the readiness of our Over the Horizon boat and its trailer. (2) Law Enforcement Assessment: We destroyed it. Our Law enforcement program and personnel were evaluated this week and we came away with a glowing endorsement. The above two inspections are important for us as a unit, as boat operations and the law enforcement mission are the two principles tasks Mohawk performs at sea. So, this was a great validation of what I have known all along: we have a highly trained / very capable crew on board! Around the ship, lots of work going on: (a) The Flight Deck and Fantail Deck are being taken down to bare metal with a new non-skid covering system reapplied. (b) The main diesel engines underwent a comprehensive inspection to identify maintenance and performance issues. (c) Our anchoring system has been removed and is getting overhauled. (d) The decks in our towing hawser locker, JP-5 fueling space, avionics shop, and auxiliary spaces have been taken down to bare metal and repainted/deck coating system renewed. (e) Bridge windows have been replaced. Now that the windows have been replaced, the Bridge is undergoing an extreme makeover. (f) Our underway internet connectivity system has been upgraded. (g) The Messdeck seating where the crew eats their meals has been renewed. (h) The air conditioning system for the back half of the ship is being overhauled. (i) Our sewage system has been overhauled and upgraded. So, lots going on! In a couple of weeks we will get the ship underway and relocate to a different pier in an effort to get Mohawk all fueled up and ready to go on patrol.
