Everyone Please read this if you live in Talladega County: "This is a heads-up notice that AL Highway 21 will be closed (all four lanes) in Mardisville beginning August 12, 2013. This is to repair two sink holes in the southbound lanes which span across to the edge of the northbound lanes. The scheduled detour from the south end of the county below Sylacauga is to take US 280 to Childersburg, Hwy. 235 to Plant Road, and Plant Road to Talladega. This will be the main “truck detour route.” If you are going south, traffic will be detoured in Talladega at Helen Keller to the bypass, down Plant Road to Hwy. 235 in Childersburg, and so on. If you can navigate around on other “back roads” then please do so. NO traffic will be able to go beyond the Gristmill Road/Orangevalle Road intersection on 21 North. Likewise, No traffic will be able to go beyond the Whiting Road intersection on 21 South. This project is scheduled to last 21 days (24 hour work crews). Based upon our current weather pattern, the project could take even longer. Please send this notification to your staff. Also, the HOPE is that the Whiting Road/Hwy. 21 intersection will remain open. Due to proximity, it may become necessary to close the crossing during the project. Coaches/Band Directors: Please verify routes for the first few games this year. This will delay some of you. If you have home games and this would impact your visitors, it would not be a bad idea to give a courtesy call to your opposing team/school and notify them of the road closure. This could delay some as much as 45 minutes to an hour depending upon traffic."
