Everyone called him Uncle Charlie, but I called him Dad: Charles William Kean: Obituary for Charles Kean Charles William Kean, age 90 of Sewell, NJ died on August 17th, 2010 at Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Washington Township. It was a gentle passing for a gentle man. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Betty (nee Martin) Kean, daughters Lynette Milanese (Anthony) of Paulsboro and Bonnie Fluck (Brad) of Pitman, grandsons Kevin and Bryan Fluck and Kenny Milanese, as well as loving extended family and friends including in-laws, Barbara Kean of Brooklawn & Harry and Carol Martin of Grenloch. Charles was predeceased by brothers Edward and Wayne Kean and sister Hazel (Kean) Forsman. Born on December 29th, 1919, Charlie graduated from Gloucester High School and was a decorated Pfc. who served in the Glider Infantry in World War II in France and Fort Dix. He was a member and past commander of the Brooklawn American Legion Post #72. He and his family lived in Wenonah for 52 years. He was co-owner of the Handy Mart Hardware Store in Brooklawn. Charlie was a man of few words who strove to make every word and moment count. He was proud of his family; he loved traveling, camping, whitewater rafting, and skied into his seventies, with Betty always by his side. Visitation will be 10 -11 AM Tuesday at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Mantua, NJ where funeral services will be held at 11 AM. Burial will follow at the Gloucester County Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Monroe Township. Memories and condolences may be shared at smithfhmantua.
