Everyone is screaming pedophilia regarding Sias new music video faturing Shia LaBeouf. I watched it. I studied it. I picked it apart. At first, I too, thought it was disgusting.. a grown man and a little girl.. but then I watched it again and again. Shia LaBeouf is a man with a mental illness, the little girl represents the mental illness and the birdcage represents his life. Now, if you have ever had a mental illness you know how he feels, you can FEEL the cage.. the rage and the desperation of Shia to escape his cage.. but the mental illness (the girl) is always there, always pulling and talking, and distracting you making you want ot follow that illness, just drift deep into the black, yet comforting, abyss. The desperation you feel to get away from it is constant as is the almost hypnotic pull of mental illness. The fight rages on and on endlessly. It is exhausting.. completely exhausting.. to fight against it, yet so wrong not to. Yes, I wish the mental illness had been portrayed by a grown woman rather than a little girl just to aviod the firestorm this video is under, but then again, a grown woman would not have been as shocking, as disgusting, as casting the little girl is. Mental illness is shocking and disgusting. It can sneak up on you without you even realizing it until you are grasped tightly in its iron grip. Bravo Sia, the video is disturbingly accurate. Let the haters roll.. they are going to anyway!
