Everyone is so passionate about this MB thing and under the - TopicsExpress

Everyone is so passionate about this MB thing and under the assumption this is a 25,000 employees strong initiative because thats what the media wants to report. Working in corporate America, I love the feel good premise of the story about your average workers telling a bunch of rich assholes to stuff it. But what is reported in the media and on all these Save Market Basket pages does not tell the story of a majority of the employees who are actually suffering. After talking to a woman at the park today who works at Market Basket, I felt compelled to write this. So here is what I have seen from the people I know; 1. Woman at the park: She told me she had to go apply for emergency food stamps because her husbands salary alone cant pay the bills. She said she just wants to get back to work and have everything be back to normal. 2. A good male friend who works at corporate MB. He said he gets called a scab, an asshole, a scum bag, a cock sucker and a number of other profanities every day he goes into work. A couple of protesters have even posted his picture on public websites encouraging people to put pressure on him and single him out. He is just a regular guy who has no choice but to work so that he can pay his mortgage, his bills and his child support so his kids can eat. But this is what he has to deal with every day. 3. A good female friend who works at corporate MB. She gets called a c*nt every day she shows up. Guys, would you appreciate your wife or girlfriend or daughter being called that just going to her job? 4. My nephews best friend. He told me he wants to go to work and has called every day to ask when he can come back because he needs the money. Guess what! He doesnt have money to pay the rent this month and had to go apply for unemployment. Where are the stories about MB employees having to apply for food stamps and unemployment because they are out of work - and not by choice? How would you feel if you pulled up to your job tomorrow and were told there was no work and to just go home - and when it was a decision you had no choice in making? How would you feed your kids and pay your mortgage? Because this is a sentiment felt by a lot of MB employees - the ones we do NOT hear about because it doesnt attract viewers and not on the side of popular opinion. Where are all the protesters for Walmart employees? MB employees actually make a fair wage, receive bonuses and get better than average benefits. Most full-time Walmart employees have to get Medicaid and food stamps because the largest American corporation doesnt offer its employees anything more than minimum wage for working extremely hard and cant even provide decent affordable health plans. Where are all the people holding signs to defend them?
