Everyone knows how much I love Mississippi blues. Some of the best - TopicsExpress

Everyone knows how much I love Mississippi blues. Some of the best blues artists ever hail from Mississippi. But some of the best blues artists ever hail also from Atlanta, Georgia. And sometimes, with the exception of one bluesman, Blind Willie McTell, I feel like country-blues lovers are overlooking some of the great Atlanta artists. I had the privilege of being friends with three of them: Peg Leg Howell, Buddy Moss, and Frank Edwards. And I have been either friends or acquaintances with the relatives of three others: Curley Weaver, Barbecue Bob, and McTell. And remember, y’all: Atlanta is important in the history of the blues. The very first folk blues was recorded in Atlanta (as well as the first old-timey country). I believe my favorite of the Atlanta bluesmen was Curley Weaver. He did so many quite unique songs, and not just variations of one fast song and one slow song. I had the privilege of knowing his daughter, the late Cora Mae Bryant, and two of his grandsons who are mighty fine bluesmen themselves and perform in Atlanta and elsewhere, Tony Bryant and Guitar David Bryant. Here is one of Curley Weavers: “No No Blues.” https://youtube/watch?v=gYCvFoe045E
