Everyone old enough to remember can recall exactly where they were and what they were doing on that fateful day November 22nd 1963 when President John F Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas Texas, i was 18 yrs old then and i was in John Dillons shop on main street Moate at about 16.00 hrs local time when suddenly there was a huge commotion everywhere in the town as the tragic news began to filter through i saw grown men and women breaking down openly weeping and in deep shock the air of horror, shock and disbelief decended on everyone young and not so young , My business in Moate town that particular evening was mainly to pick up a medical prescription for a neighbour in Drumraney , which i did and then went to John Dillons shop on main street to purchase an vinal L.P of the BEETLES who were at the time becoming huge in the hits in the pops charts of the day , However i was unable to get served in the shop due to the distraction re the dreadful news re the assassination of J.F.K , and to be honest i lost interest in the purpose of my visit to the shop and could hardly cycle home the 6 miles fast enough to relate the sad news to the home folk . https://youtube/watch?v=u4YP8A2ZiCc
