Everyone planning on voting in Virginia next Tuesday must read this endorsement. The Richmond Times-Dispatch Editorial Board lays out a clear and succinct argument for why we need to make a change in the United States Senate. One of the main reasons I became excited about an Ed Gillespie candidacy in January was his ability to effectively create and drive public policy through Congress, as seen with his involvement with the Contract with America and his role with the nomination processes of Supreme Court Justices John Roberts and Samuel Alito. Most of Ed Gillespies accomplishments came when different parties controlled the Congress and Presidency. Its good to see the Richmond Times-Dispatch understands that actions mean much more than rhetoric. Virginians have only seen press releases and statements from the incumbent senator begging for change, not results or votes. Heres an excerpt from the endorsement: It’s time to retire a Democratic establishment politician: Sen. Mark Warner, whose record of accomplishment at the Capitol is thin. His vote to support President Obama’s health care “reform” — a vote that was absolutely essential to its passage — has damaged the country by injecting federal power into our health system in hopes of modest gains purchased at exorbitant costs to our economy, our health and our freedom. This vote alone should disqualify Warner. A second vote...Warner’s vote to support Reid as Senate leader, which is sure to be repeated if the Democrat returns to Congress, has ensured the gridlock that Virginia’s senior senator so often laments. Reid has killed numerous serious ideas emanating from the House of Representatives, including many originated by Virginians serving in the lower chamber. It’s time to thank Mark Warner for his efforts and send him back to the private sector, where he will no doubt flourish. Virginia needs a senator who does more than propose. We need one who will help formulate, stimulate and legislate effective solutions. That’s Ed Gillespie. timesdispatch/opinion/our-opinion/gillespie-for-senate/article_7ae7292a-6e0c-5734-b0a7-8944670ce72d.html
