Everyone, please focus on keeping your family and friends safe. Here are things to do to be proactive, for any what ifs that life may through your way: 1. Have an emergency bag prepped and ready to go. Include some cash/change, change of clothes, energy bars, water, phone charging cables, spare keys, a pad lock and chain, a book to read while waiting. Anyone on medication? Have a 30 day supply ready to go. 2. Do you have a working fire alarm? Do you have a working fire extinguisher? 3. Does your family have an escape plan? 4. Do you have a block captain? Do you know who this person is? 5. If you have gas appliances, do you know how to shut off the gas coming into your home? 6. Have you identified a non-home safe space? Do you have the name and contact info of an organizer there? 7. If you have a car, do you have kitty litter in it to help should you get stuck in snow/ice? Do you have jumper cables? Do you have basic fluids ready to replenish if needed? Does your car have an emergency kit? Do you have at least one heavy/warm blanket per person in your trunk? 8. Who is on your call/text tree of contacts? Is it time to update it? 9. Breathe. This list is to get you thinking and focused, nothing more. The best outcomes begin with forethought.
