Everyone seems to be doing the top 10 books that have stayed with me, so Im going to do it too. Now, as you might expect from someone who collects childrens books, these will mostly be things I read before I was 20 and had an impact on me. In no particular order: The Hobbit by Tolkien (which I read in 3rd grade and followed in 4th grade with the Lord of the Rings and reread them annually for most of the next 25 years) Nancy Drew series by Carolyn Keene (if I have to choose, then the 1st one, Secret of the Old Clock because it made me read the rest of the series)--although I also could claim Trixie Belden or the 3 Investigators here, but Nancy Drew was probably my fav when I was young Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein The Phantom Tollbooth by Juster The Neverending Story by Ende A Wrinkle in Time by M. L Engle (although I was deeply affected by many of her books, especially A Ring of Endless Light, this was the one I read first from her and have reread the most often) To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee Witch of Blackbird Pond by Speare (one of my earliest historical fictions) King of the Wind by Marguerite Henry (I was addicted to horse stories when I was young but this one stayed with me--even though it was years before we figured out which title, but I remembered the plot and some of the images) My Enemy the Queen by Victoria Holt (yes, cheesy, but this was part of the reason I loved Renaissance history when I was young--the drama of the personal relationships of people in the English court at the time!)
