The number of 48-year olds in the U.S. peaked in 2009—just as the Baby Boom peak birth year was 48 years before: 1961 (the year Obama was born) . So you think the recession that started in 2008 was Sub Prime mortgages? Partly yes, but more of the economy since then is simply the number of 48-year olds going down, down, down. . Stimulus? Quantitatve Easing? Social media? . All minor forces compared to the number of 48-year olds declining. And not a damned one of them changes the number of 48-year olds. . One guy in the movie said the groups with the highest birth rates are “people of faith.” Doesn’t matter which faith: Jews, Muslims, Protestants, Catholics. . Are the people of faith the geniuses after all? Nah. Right for the wrong reason. . When I was an elementary school kid in Catholic school, I concluded that the real reason behind a whole bunch of strict Catholic rules: mandatory mass attendance on Sundays and religious holidays, no birth control, no divorce, mixed-marriage kids must be Catholics, etc.—was nothing but money. They got their money by passing a basket at church on Sundays and they wanted as many people as possible in those pews to pass the basket by. . I expect all religions have the same basic, crude, 7th-century idea of how to maximize “corporate” profits: maximize the umber of congregation members. The fact that it also best preserves the society and species long-term is a lucky by-product. Stopped clock is right twice a day. . And the groups that have self-genocide fertility rates—below 2.1 children per female—are essentially the atheists and agnostics—large percentages of the populations of the developed countries. Not because they are dumber, but very simply because they are neither receiving nor following anyone’s orders to “go forth and multiply.” . The “Godless Communists” are, therefore, predictably in the worst shape. Russia now has only 140 million people and is projected to have about 70 million in 30 years. They’re paying people a lot to have babies. That never works. It’s also extremely expensive. Putin needs to be worrying about other things than how much neighboring territory he can annex. . China as 1.4 billion people. They are expected to have the same total number in 2040, but they will be older on average because of the one child-policy that stared in 1979 and continues. In 2030, the number of Chinese over 55 will greatly enlarge; the number under 30 will greatly shrink compared to now.
