Everything about her life was consistent, the way she loved all people, the way she was always herself regardless of who was with her, and the way she refused to ever lose heart or get down. Even on the last night that I ever saw her, she remained as she had been before. Knowing how much she loved me, I thought that when I disappointed her that she would finally change, and stay with me although I could never blame any woman who left me for what I did. After she discovered what I did, she just smiled as she had always done, and started to walk away without saying a word. Long ago she had told me that if I ever cheated on her that she would see it as a blessing and she would see it as an opportunity to find someone else more worthy of her. As she stood there on that city street facing the sidewalk in the opposite direction, she looked over her shoulder and back at me and at that moment I thought that she would change her mind. Her head was tilted ever so slightly as her eyes met my mine and her long mane trailed down her back over her bared shoulders. On her lips she still beheld that forever-pleasant smile and as she turned and walked I knew I would never see her again.
