Everything green is expensive and stupid: A new analysis of government and industry figures shows that wind turbine owners received £1.2billion in the form of a consumer subsidy, paid by a supplement on electricity bills last year. They employed 12,000 people, to produce an effective £100,000 subsidy on each job. Once subsidies are taken out of the equation, alternative energy types don’t have much to fall back on. Then again, as Pierre Gosselin points out: Not being able to think more than one step ahead is a chronic illness of the Greens. While subsidies soar, something else is slowing down: The rise in the surface temperature of earth has been markedly slower over the last 15 years than in the 20 years before that. And that lull in warming has occurred even as greenhouse gases have accumulated in the atmosphere at a record pace. The slowdown is a bit of a mystery to climate scientists. Well, these people thought a carbon tax would be popular. They exist in a constant state of puzzlement.
