Evidence for Accuracy of Laboratory Report: The Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Christian Medical College, Vellore, India under the banner of the Association of Clinical Biochemists of India (ACBI) is conducting an External Quality Assessment Scheme (EQAS) and Department of Clinical Biochemistry at Dhulikhel Hospital-Kathmandu University Hospital, Dhulikhel, Nepal has been participating continuously with this program since 2009. EQAS determines the accuracy of the entire testing process from receipt of sample and testing of sample to reporting of results or Total Testing Process (TTP). CMC evaluates of each laboratory report is based on WHO recommend method expression i.e. Variance Index Score and Standard Deviation Index (SDI) , done monthly as well as yearly. We are pleased that, we have been ranked at 666 positions out of total 2703 participating South Asian laboratories and placed on group I based accuracy and consistency of the test report that we made throughout the year 2013. Even though we have lot of space to improve but it’s too rigid to compete with world class Indian chain laboratories. This has encouraged us to provide even more accurate and timely test report to our patients. Congratulations to team of Department of Clinical Biochemsitry, Dhulikhel Hospital-Kathmandu University Hospital, Dhulikhel, Nepal. We became first laboratory in the country to participate in EQAS programme for HbA1c and Immunoassay. Also, I have been appointed as corresponding member under Analytical Quality (C-AQ) in EMD committee by International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC), Milano, Italy. The mission of the committee is to promote the education and training of laboratory professionals on international standards and practices of analytical quality in clinical laboratories. The IFCC is a worldwide, non-political organization for clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine. This appointment have encouraged me to initiate the concept of quality assessment (IQC & EQAS) in our country where it’s least promised.
