Evidence of Abundance 18: Literacy in the U.S. Today’s Evidence - TopicsExpress

Evidence of Abundance 18: Literacy in the U.S. Today’s Evidence of Abundance is a topic near to my heart: solving illiteracy. At the turn of the 20th century, the disparity in literacy here in the U.S. largely came down to race. Nearly half of minorities at that time – 45 percent – were illiterate, while 94 percent of white citizens were literate. Now, it’s a different story: the total population, regardless of race, hovers near total literacy. Caption: Graphic above shows the dramatic decline in illiteracy due to technology, based on U.S. Census data. Technology will continue to accelerate this trend across the world. At XPRIZE, we just launched a Global Learning XPRIZE that we believe will make illiteracy obsolete. The prize challenges teams to create a piece of software that children can use to teach themselves to read, write and do basic math. Today, the tools to solve the world’s biggest problems lie in the hands of entrepreneurs and bold-thinking individuals like you. What are you most interested in solving? P.S.
