Evidently, my party this evening was short-lived: just received a frightening and uplifting email. The Inter-American Commission on Human RIghts has agreed to proceed a formal case against the Dominican Republic based on the pleadings I drafted. Just when I wanted to say the heck with fighting the good fight, a windmill comes forth. Tons of work ahead, which is frightening, but we will win. Please see the the email below (I do not think the attorneys in Haiti realize that my legal team is an army of one). Please message me if you have worked with me on the matter in the past, or may be interested in helping in the future Dear Professor Roman, We just received a document from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) and take this opportunity to thank you and your team for your support. In this document, the IACHR: Confirms that they had received our petition and the memorandum of law. Confirms that our petition and the memorandum fall under the jurisdiction of the commission and they are working on them. The IACHR also took the opportunity to send us a paper about complaints presentation. So, this is an important step on the road to our victory! In this case, we must take technical and strategic initiatives to win as you used to say it. We think we can: realize a trip to the Dominican Republic in order to have more informations (testimony, meeting with victims of the decision, etc.). It will be very important to go there because the IACHR will need some cases and it is our responsibility. it is also important to have meeting with some american congressmen who can support us (for example Black caucus, and so on). On october 29th 2013, a dozen of american Congressman had written to the Dominican government to denounce the decision. meet some important personalities and lobby groups in all USA write some articles in american newspapers (Miami Herald, Washington Post, etc.) have some lectures at FIU and other partner universities on the Haiti-Dominican issue. a meeting in FIU with you and your team could be important for planning more.
