Evo-Stik First Division North Roundup Unfortunately for Darlington, our home game with Cammell Laird last week was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Heritage Park despite the best efforts from our fans on Saturday morning. We remain fourth in the league table, but are now seven points off top spot. Evo-Stick Elsewhere a number of other games were also called off in our division as the weather, yet again, had an impact on the fixture list. Among the games that were called off included Curzon Ashton’s game with Burscough, in a week which only saw five league games played. Warrington Town were able to take advantage of Curzon not playing as they moved back to the top of the division, with a convincing win at home to Salford City. Three first half goals, two from Ciaran Kilheeney and the other from Carlos Meakin, secured the points before a stoppage time goal from Mark Battersby gave Salford a consolation, as Warrington ran out 3-1 winners. The win saw Warrington move above Curzon by a point, but they have played three games more than their promotion rivals. Farsley FC also were able to take advantage of others not playing, as they won their game last Friday night. They were held for over an hour by struggling Wakefield, but Farsley were able to score three times in the last half an hour to pick up the points away from home, with goals from, Paddy Miller,Aiden Savory and Adam Priestley. Farsley moved level on points with Curzon Ashton, but they have played five games more. The three sides below the top four all played and all were able to pick up vital wins to to keep up their own playoff chances. Bamber Bridge occupy the last playoff spot after they thrashed Padiham,5-1. Goals from Curtis Thompson, Tom Williams and Alistair Waddecar gave them a 3-0 lead, before Mayers pulled one back for the visitors. However Bamber Bridge secured the win with two further goals in the last ten minutes through, Zach Clark and another from Waddecar. Lancaster City made hard work of their home game with bottom of the table Ossett Albion, but managed to get the win needed to keep up their playoff hopes. A solitary goal from Mark Jackson in the second half was enough to give them the 1-0 victory, which leaves them level on points with Bamber Bridge. Ramsbottom United were able to pick up a vital victory away to Clitheroe to keep them in touch with the top six. Having trailed 2-1 at one point, Ramsbottom scored twice in the last ten minutes to win the game 4-2. A Chris Denham double was followed by a Billy Priestley goal and a Grant Spencer penalty to give Rammy the win. Matthew McNamara and Paul Coote had scored the goals for Clitheroe. This coming Saturday we face a tough looking trip over the Pennines away to Kendal Town. When we met on Bank Holiday Monday in August we came out 3-1 winners at Heritage Park. Curzon Ashton host the only side they have lost to in the league this season, Ossett Town, while Warrington Town travel to Padiham.
