Evolution is how we got here, because we are sentient we have a choice about how we will interact with each other. Forgiveness is a part of that. You cannot honestly believe that Aborigine, Chinese and Native American peoples who lived ten thousand years ago, who had never heard of Jesus, Yahweh or Abraham, did not forgive each other? Do you believe that a father would not forgive his son or a son, his mother? The wife forgives her husband, the sister forgives the brother and the neighbor forgives neighbor. This is human nature, forgiveness is essential for the continuity of any relationship. If forgiveness had not already been part of human nature, we would be extinct because we are an interdependent species. Even Chimpanzees forgive. An alpha male who has abused his troupe will eventually be ousted, usually quite violently. A new alpha male rises to lead and the ousted leader remains on the outs for a time. Eventually, after a period of probation and with good behavior (i.e. grooming) the old leader is accepted once again into the tribe. He has forgiven them and they, him. The troupe strength and number remains and their chances of survival are not reduced. Forgiveness can mean survival, in some cases the fittest forgive.
