Ex-United player Ronnie Wallwork avoids jail after admitting stealing a car Former Manchester United star Ronnie Wallwork has avoided a jail sentence for stealing a car. The ex-Red Devil, who made 19 appearances for United and earned a Premier League title winners’ medal for the 2000-1 season, entered into an agreement with car finance company Money Barn PLC in June 2008 for a high-powered Audi A4, Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court heard. The vehicle was worth £28,000 at the time and the deal included fees and charges of around £12,000 – amounting to a total repayment cost of around £41,000. The court heard Wallwork agreed to make 35 monthly payments of £499 and a final one-off payment of £13,000. Direct debit payments on the car were made until October 2008 and other payments continued to be made until July 2010. But the court heard payments stopped at around the time he came under suspicion and was arrested for an illegal vehicle-breaking plot where he sold on parts from stolen cars. Wallwork was jailed for 15 months in December 2011 for that offence.
