Exactly 100 walkers participated in the volksmarch today in Greenbelt, MD. Greenbelt was a public cooperative community founded during the depression in 1935 by the U.S. Resettlement Administration. Today’s walk was sponsored by the Greenbelt Walking Club. The first photo is of some of the volunteers working the start/finish. Club President Salva Holloman is the woman in the middle. The walk consisted of two 5K loops. The first loop was primarily on sidewalks and paths in neighborhoods dating prior to WWII. Most of the second loop was in parks. A large part of it was around Greenbelt Lake in the Buddy Attick Park. The Greenbelt Walking Club also sponsors a YRE in Greenbelt and YREs nearby at Greenbelt Park and College Park. They also sponsor a bike event in College Park. The club’s next traditional event is October 11 at the College Park Airport. The Maryland Volkssport Association will also be sponsoring a Memorial Bike Ride for Dave Scull at the same place.
