Exactly, how do we know our children are getting healthier in schools? Or at the very least, enrolled in a school with great facilities, outstanding people, and a fit environment that encourages them to lead a healthy lifestyle? First of all, it’s always a good start to be realistic by accepting that not all schools are created the same. And for a parent to truly know the quality of the school, getting involved in PTAs and other school activities—that require the presence of parents—to meet other parents and faculty members is an effective way to get an insider look at the current state of the school’s environment. Seeing and interacting with the people who are particularly involve in shaping our children’s minds are good opportunities to determine whether or not our children are in a safe and healthy place. In addition, schools that support active arts programs and require computer courses build a good foundation among students. In this time and age of technology, computer learning and art programs should be required as standard for all schools to keep them properly informed about the society’s continued development and give them alternative reason to divert their attention from entertaining dangerous habits. Other areas to consider by every parent are the schools’ involvement in promoting healthy living through physical education programs and by introducing healthy meals within the school premises. With the increasing rate of childhood obesity, we can only hope for our kids to start eat more veggies, fruits, and organic products in school and adapt physical fitness routines that will help them achieve healthy longevity. After all, kids who eat healthy food in schools give better performance at school and go through life with a more positive outlook. Kids diet and exercise programs are limited in schools and more emphasis is needed in this area. Finally, a healthy school ensures a safe campus to all its students. This means our kids are free from the dangers of outsiders entering the campus and the risk of students coming in contact with undesirable people that might do harm to them.
