Exam site crashes – “BIGGEST BAR EXAM DISASTER - TopicsExpress

Exam site crashes – “BIGGEST BAR EXAM DISASTER EVER” Technology has done great things for education, but sometimes it can become detrimental. Have you had any experiences like this disaster? A large number of bar candidates across the country, likely in the thousands, are unable to upload their completed exams to a website called examsoft — a major issue for these students that have deadlines to do so. ExamSoft seems to be the source of the issues. Despite being the lead option in secure electronic testing, the site wasn’t prepared for the inevitable result when tens of thousands of examinees across the country attempted to upload their exam files at the same time. These are comments from just a few of the unhappy users: “Total disaster for many bar examinees today. We were all told to go home and upload our files or we would get a zero. Software crashed. Website crashed. Tech support phone number disconnects you when you call for help. And we were forced to pay for the privilege of using this.” “No one can upload their bar exam files, all over the country. And we were forced to pay them $100-150 to boot!” “Some students’ exams disappeared (mine included). I do not know yet if this is permanent or temporary. I hope temporary.” Technology is so prevalent in our educational systems today it’s almost a little shocking how fast it’s some things catch on. The question is, are we pushing ahead too fast? College students take half their tests these days in computer labs, not classrooms. Entire degrees can even be earned now in the comfort of your own home. I know the advantages, but where is this leading? For these law students, a matter of convenience turned into a disaster. What positive/negative experiences have you, your kids or your students had with technology and education? ~quotes from abovethelaw
