Examining race relations and oppressive privilege we see that - TopicsExpress

Examining race relations and oppressive privilege we see that privilege in the hands of anxious oppressive individuals and groups certainly helped to create this condition of class privilege and respect. Yet we must probe deeper into this phenomenon than seeing a situation in which it becomes easy to be angry with those in a more powerful class than oneself. When we hate others for any reason we play into the irrational anxieties and fears that gave rise both the oppressor and the oppressed, a situation that is in the end not healthy for either group, or ultimately for all life on our planet. It is important to understanding this phenomenon of class oppression to see the poor communication between caring and trust within individuals between their more reflective perspectives and their cooperative trusting ones, deep within themselves. They are at war not just with others but within themselves. Arthur Janov has for a long time now discussed this inner war as a disease of the ability to feel, a disease he calls neurosis. However, let me say that such an inner war, an inner anxious war of an oppressed class against itself, leaves open the ability for the upper classes to take control by appealing to the anxious herd instinct not to be in the back of a running pack. This herd instinct ignited by fear requires promoting this same self protective fear over reason, over creative thought, and over natural tendencies to promote and feel compassion to any other human being despite surface trivial differences. When the herd is running in fear it isnt thinking it isnt caring for others and it isnt being creative as to where it is headed, and in the human herd the less anxiety provoking position is to be ahead of others in every perspective and for any reasons, even irrational ones. When you tell one group they are just a bit better or the best it is most appealing to them when they are anxious for their own survival and running or struggling to get ahead of their fears. We see this with the white pity concepts that talk of reverse discrimination and anxious inability to see social facts in neutral objective ways and acting in ways that can reverse the effects of irrational discrimination that has traditionally put some at an extreme disadvantage. Furthermore the lack of acting in effective ways to change discrimination ignores the fact that the effects of such discrimination gave the royal jelly of privilege to a few who then could attain greater health and educational opportunity over others. It is also then easy to point out, as an excuse for discrimination, the desperate actions, or the lack of self confidence and abilities on the part of those trapped in desperation and poverty, as reasons for the oppression of those classes. Oppressive discrimination is not just a problem for the poor class, but for the middle class and even the ruling class, because groups cannot oppress others without oppressing a part of themselves. This is a deep and destructive mental disease that destroys, eventually, our planet and humanity itself. I believe the act of discrimination and oppression of others also harms the health of individuals, dividing their better instincts to care, to think, and to be creative from helping their own views, and loving action, toward themselves. Hating others is hurting not only the feeling kid in others but the sensitive kid in oneself... Here is an example of how discrimination works, being promoted by perceived superiors or authorities, a situation playing subtly on inner fears.
