Examples: 1) Thomas’ Mrs. has stayed busy as a bee in conservative Tea Party politics of late, accepting payments as founder and head of Liberty Central, a right-wing group opposed to all things progressive and liberal. 2) “Justices Thomas and Scalia allow(ing) their names and images to be used to promote attendance at an event specifically recognizing substantial donors and encouraging new donors to (join) the Federalist Society,” a conservative organization whose rolls are packed with Libertarian and Republican politicians and business CEO’s, would find themselves in an ethical SNAFU? 3) perhaps the same two justices would find themselves in a bit of a pickle over their majority votes in the Citizens United case, which gave the Koch billionaires carte blanche to funnel millions in campaign contributions to conservative candidates, and their subsequent attendance only months later at a Koch Industries fundraiser. For a justice to place himself in situations and at events that could lend credence to the belief that his judicial decisions may be or already have been swayed to further a political cause in which he or a spouse or child could potentially profit is for him to enter a quagmire mined with political explosives."
