Excel Functions – 18 AverageIf: to perform Average when a specific given condition meets [Syntax =AverageIf(range, criteria,[Average Range])]. Similarly this function has three arguments where third argument is optional (i.e. may be omitted). For instance, we have a data of sales where a column (e.g. F) having name of region like East, West, North, South, Center on the other hand in the column H there are amount of sales. To Average all entries in the data pertaining to East we can use this function as =AverageIf(F2:F102,East,H2:H102) at cell # F105 alternatively we can type =AverageIf(F2:F102,E105,H2:H102). Note it will return Average matching the criteria i.e. how much sales in the East region. Excel search for a specific entry (East) in a specific range (F2:F102) whereas respective sales will be found at the range of H2:H102.
