KARANGALAN (2014) South Cotabato Drama | 40min Beautifully shot in the mountainous regions of South Cotabato, “Karangalan” takes us on an extraordinary journey with a T’Boli tribe under the sovereignty of Datu Kablan (Crisigono Soriano). It’s been 20 years since Datu Kablan and his wife Inang Amaya (Deby Mutya) last saw their son Favio—when the datu banished Favio for converting to the INC, accusing him of tribal disloyalty and for replacing their god Kadaw La Sambad and goddess Bulon La Mogoaw for the Father in Heaven recognized by the INC. But when the greedy and ruthless Don Facundo arrives and threatens to snatch the tribe’s land, it becomes a way for Inang Amaya to search for Favio, who is a practicing lawyer. Will the datu welcome his son back? And will he change his mind about the INC? “Karangalan,” directed by Jaysan Ugbaniel, touches on various spiritual matters: propagation, hope, the Biblical law on marriage, unconditional familial love—and proving that, with God, the impossible can be possible.
