Excellent description of what worldliness is and isnt by Holly Stratton. 1 John 2 tells that us that worldliness is determined by our affections & desires that have us making choices independently from God. The world believes that their satisfaction & happiness can be found apart from Him, and Im being worldly when my mind & heart are in step with that. Its Eve in Gen 3:6. It wasnt a problem that she observed the fruit looked delicious & noted it carried wisdom, the problem was that her affections & thoughts had her disbelieving that God was enough. We deceive ourselves when we define worldliness otherwise, for external pronouncements are not only incapable of keeping our hearts in check, they also make assumptions about others that we are incapable of making. (i.e. That style of music stirs unholy desire.) The fight against worldliness is too treacherous to muddle with distraction. I was just telling my sweet daughter this as she begins college life away from her parents. Our prayer for her is that she will keep growing in understanding that God alone can satisfy. Her heart affections, not rules & regulations, will dictate her choices that matter for eternity.
