Excellent news from the latest HPCSA Bulletin!! "Emergency action Emergency care providers are primarily responsible for pre-hospital situations. With the exception of basic ambulance assistants, most practitioners are registered in the category Independent Practice with specific scopes of practice relating to the pre-hospital environment. The Council would like to reiterate the importance that the best interest of the patient must always be the primary concern for those on the scene. In addition, the most trained and experienced practitioners should take charge of the emergency situation. Consequently, the Medical and Dental Professions Board has rescinded its previous resolution that medical practitioners could assume control and responsibility of the patient and that the practitioner should identify him/herself to the emergency care practitioners and inform them of his/her intention to do so. Emergency care practitioners were required to carry out instructions from the medical practitioner, provided that it was in the scope of practice of that practitioner." hpcsa-blogs.co.za/emergency-action/
