Excellent op ed by our own Diane Poland about weather terror hype -- as the US Northeast is suppressed under an unprecedented travel ban! Introducing the idea of the government banning or managing the movement of large populations that are not under immediate risk of death from a natural disaster is an extremely disturbing development …remember they always start a precedent with something that seems reasonable and benign. Diane E Poland: Those of us who remember what it was like to grow up without weather technology and Doppler Radar are laughing this morning. People were used to storms way back when, we listened to the radio for conditions first thing in the morning to see if schools were called off. Thats how we found out, the local radio station. If it wasnt called you dressed in layers and trudged through high snow to the bus stop. No hysteria, no massive hype from the media. It was weather, we dealt with it and there was a peace about it as we did what had to be done. Now? Society has turned into Chicken Littles and Henny Pennys when the media Peters cry wolf. No one can know what the weather is truly going to do and the expectation that the corporate weather channel is the be all and end all of facts is a joke. The fact remains weather is supreme and not controlled by anyone […]. Man has become hysterical and demanding in its expectations. Weather is not a terrorist threat, and since weve managed to alter the atmosphere we now get to live with the consequences - as with all terrorist threats. Funny how that works. Its called consequences and it applies to ALL things.
