From the very beginning of the European capture of the Americas, black and indigenous people have been victims of a special oppression, have suffered more than anyone from a system that is designed to create massive wealth and concentrate it in the hands of the few. This economic and political oppression has been added to by a system of divide-and-rule that is tuned to perfection to create “fear of a dark other" and to prevent any meaningful unity of oppressed people - of the 99%. Ninety miles south of Florida, you find Cuba. Trayvon Martin wouldn’t have been murdered there, and George Zimmerman wouldn’t have been acquitted there. And that comes down to the difference between capitalism and socialism."
