Excerpt from FIFI, Chapter Six: Back in May, while I was staying at the hotel, Marla called me about a job. Hey, I dont know if you would be interested but I got this email today that Bras, Boobs and Butts (BB&B) is hiring., she informed me. I would love to do something!, I said excitedly. Well, I think it would be good for you to have a job. It is a nice boutique in a pretty shopping area. she said. I totally agree!, I concurred. Should I email them?, I asked No, I want you to get dressed and go down there in person. I want them to see you., she responded. I knew the shop well. I was a client of the owner, Charlotte Eden. In 2007, my breasts were augmented after giving birth and nursing three babies. It was time. In preparation for my surgery, I found a picture of Ivanka Trumps post augmented body. I presented the busty picture to my plastic surgeon. She wanted me to go bigger since I had the shoulders to pull it off. I said. No, this is the size I want. If its good enough for Ivanka, its good enough for me. Post operatively, I was challenged to find a well fitted bra. My daughter Carrie suggested I go see Charlotte Eden. A lot of my friends at school go see her Mom., she said. Who knew I would, one day, parlay my 36 FF bust experience to an employment opportunity! I had just bought a new maxi sundress from the GAP and fresh water pearls. At the time, I planned to wear the ensemble to Carries graduation. Now, it was the perfect outfit for my job interview. I text my attorney I was on my way to get a job and was it okay? He replied, yes. Later, he admitted to me he was surprised I went out to find employment. Another stereotype shattered. From my years as a nurse in psychiatry, I knew work was the best activity I could engage in for good mental health. Cy informed me the money I earned would effect the amount of alimony I received. I did not care. I knew working at the boutique, meeting people and being productive would make me stronger. I breezed into BB&B on a rather busy afternoon in the store. I met the manager who actually remembered me coming in two months earlier for a fitting. At the time, I shrank from a size 12 to a size 6 in one month from the duress of the divorce. I needed a new bra. In the dressing room, she noticed my weight loss. I was now a 34 F. How did you lose so much weight? she asked Its the divorce diet., I said. She laughed with me. Im so sorry., she said sincerely. I briefly explained the financial infidelity in my marriage. Im going to write a book about the MFer. He always wanted to be famous. Ill make him infamous., I said. Now, two months later, here I was, asking for a job. I have no resumè. Ive been a stay at home mom for seventeen years. I said. She looked me straight in the eye for a brief moment and asked, Would you be willing to work full time? I knew then I had a good chance of getting the position. Before I could respond she told me, Thats okay. Just fill out this application. I went to a near by coffee house and bought one of my favorite frozen coffee drinks with whipped cream. As I sat down to fill out the application, I realized I had no idea what hourly rate to ask for. I called Marla. What should I ask for a starting salary? I inquired. Ten dollars an hour? she answered. Okay, sounds good to me. Thank you. I replied. I returned to the boutique and handed in my application. The manager told me to email Charlotte tonight and let her know I applied for the position. A couple of days later, I came in for an interview. It went well and they genuinely seemed to like me. I was given a tour of the small shop and met several employees. It felt like the perfect place to fill my time. That evening I got a phone call from Charlotte. We all love you and want you to come work with us if you are still interested., she said. I said, Oh my gosh how sweet. Yes, of course. I was highly motivated to begin this new adventure. I cannot overstate this fact; Charlotte Eden saved my life. She hired me without a resumè and without previous experience in a depressed economic climate and scarce job opportunities. No doubt Dug was expecting me to obtain employment as a housekeeper or a grocery cashier. Thats okay. I will flip burgers before I knowingly subject myself to a lifestyle funded by his corruption.
