Excerpt from Say Hello To Happiness: Since the early twentieth century, psychologists have been studying human beings’ self-limiting beliefs, in an attempt to free their clients from limiting thoughts and behaviours. Michael Adamedes began his counselling practice in 1982. Inspired by the work of many influential thinkers, in particular the American psychiatrist and author David Hawkins, Michael sought to simplify the understanding of his clients’ issues and then broaden his discoveries to encompass all of humanity’s self-limiting thinking. In line with the principle of Occam’s Razor, which advocates choosing the simplest explanation for a phenomenon, Michael claims, “The truth is simple”. He believes that by reducing a process to its essential elements, we have more understanding and power over it. By 2004, after counselling thousands of clients, Michael concluded that all self-limiting beliefs can be grouped into one or more of the following three categories of primal self-limiting beliefs: 1. I am unworthy. 2. I am unsafe. 3. I am alone. All emotional pain is created by subscribing to one or more of these beliefs. Your self-limiting beliefs can be thought of as bacteria that have invaded your mind. Just as bacteria can be treated with antibiotics, self-limiting beliefs can be eliminated by using positive affirmations.
