Excerpt from The Light: Kundalini Our bodies contain major subtle energy centers, known as the chakras or wheels of energy. They begin at the root of the spine and continue up along the spine to the crown of the head. Each energy center needs to be balanced and energized so that they spin in a way that creates the correct vortexes of energy to allow the sacred and mysterious Kundalini to begin Her holy work. Through yogic exercises and breathing techniques and if it is the right moment in our destiny, we can come into alignment with each center, so the flow of the purifying Kundalini energy travels unrestricted on the way to Her final destination. The actual process allows our prana/life force (breath) to merge with the apana (eliminating energy) and a subtle pressure is created, drawing the Kundalini upwards. When the chakras come into balance, concentration of the scattered mind can be achieved. Although there are many ways in which this one-pointedness can be attained, the underlying principles are the same. If the mind is focused then it is easier to deal with the negativity and delusions that create the obstacles in our path. When Kundalini passes through the central nerve known as the sushumna and reaches the highest chakras, we are truly blessed.
