Excerpt from the book Keys to Success -- Successful “Are you successful?” one might ask you. What would your answer be? Some of you would say “Yes”, some of you would say “No” and some would say “Huh, what do you mean by that?” I would ask: “Can you be more precise with your question, please? Do you mean successful with regard to money, education, health, job, family or career?” Usually when people mean successful they mean successful with money and/or with regard to their career. So, what is it to be successful? The word success comes from Latin successus, from the verb succedere: the achievement of one’s aim or goal. One who, or that which, achieves assumed goals. In business to be successful means to have financial profitability. You might be successful with your family but not with your career. You might be successful in education but not in money handling let alone investing. The famous and rich investor Warren Buffet once said: “Wall Street is the only place that people ride to work in a Rolls Royce to get advice from those who take the subway.” Of all parts of life one can be successful in; financial intelligence is the most important part for me. I’m surprised that many of those I’ve talked to, including my closest friends, downgrade this topic. They are dreaming of financial freedom, yet they are struggling with their economic situation day in, day out. They continue with the same job they feel uncomfortable in but feel they must endure because of a lack of money. Anyone who tries to give financial advice is ignored. This is the paradox I cannot understand. In the following chapters I will dig into several areas of life and will give hints on how to achieve success in these areas. So stay tuned. First we’ll start with the subjects of money and happiness and their relation to success. --
