Hernandez added that he thought supporting the increase would be the “responsible and prudent” thing to do. Other council members agreed. Atmos Energy had requested a $12.4 million increase across its West Texas division, which includes about 60 cities including Amarillo. The original increase for Lubbock, had the city not negotiated a lower rate, would have been about $3.5 million. The city, however, reached a deal for a $2.75 million increase for in-city ratepayers. 2] The 6-0 vote to accept Medina’s resignation came with no council discussion. Joy, who said she is legally representing Medina’s son, Erik, recused herself from the vote. ...
