Excited to be speaking at SRCCON next month. I also want to point out that I had never heard of SRCCON and would never have applied to speak at a conference aimed at journo-coders. But someone from Knight Mozilla Open News reached out and suggested that I apply. I did and my conference talk was accepted. This, to me, is a wonderful example of how to increase diversity at a tech conference: directly approaching potential speakers who might not know about the conference and suggesting that they apply. (The same, I think, would work equally well for jobs.) They also asked me to identify others who they should reach out to for future events. I saw this as a way to get more diversity in the conference pipeline and was really happy that they asked for this. (cc: Erika Owens)
