Excitement is building for a lantern event on Dover’s sea front - TopicsExpress

Excitement is building for a lantern event on Dover’s sea front involving pupils from six Dover District schools. In the past few weeks they have been busy making lanterns to bring along to the event and taking part in preparatory workshops involving performance, filmmaking and storytelling facilitated by an artist’s collaboration based in Deal called Underground Pearl. In the early evening of 29 March, the lanterns will be lit and the story behind the event will be narrated by Barry O’Brien of Dover Community Radio and acted out through song and dance by students from Astor College. Dover rowing club will act out the rescue of the ghost ship ‘Lady Lovibond’. Once the performances are completed the participants will proceed along the Esplanade, accompanied by the Big Fish Street Band, and end at the Swimmers statues where the rescued ghostly crew will be waved off into their new future. The schools participating in the lantern event are: • St Marys CEP • Sandown CPS • Portal House • Cartwright & Kelsey CPS • St Richards RCPS • Astor College for the Arts Times: Arrivals from 5.30pm for a 6pm start. Event ends at 7.30pm. We are still looking for extra marshals to help out on the day. If you would like to get involved please contact Loren Beven on 07896 949318.
