Exciting South Coast Geological Society Field Trip News (Oct 3-5, 2014): Sandy and I drove up to Santa Barbara today for a sitdown planning meeting with Professor Emeritus Art Sylvester of UCSB. As you know, our annual field trip will be October 3-5, this year in the White Mountains. We will be focusing on Pre-Cambrian and Cambrian Strata and intrusion by younger Plutons. Arts on board to help lead the trip. Our rough schedule of activities is as follows: Friday - Exploring the Cambrian Strata and Structure in the vicinity of Poleta Folds (NOTE - we will not be publishing spoilers) Saturday - 4 wheeling to Papoose Flat Pluton and discovering how this pluton was emplaced and how it affected the the rocks it intruded Sunday - A drive north of Westgard Pass to Ancient Bristlecones and more We are trying to set up an in-camp lecture Saturday night on mining in the White Mountains. As usual this trip will be fully catered Saturday and Sunday. More details will be out in a few weeks but please save the date. If you have questions about the trip please PM me on facebook! Cheers Jeff (Past Prez 2012)
