Exciting week for @champaigncity: Mahomet Aquifer saved from PCBs, big growth in tourism revenue, 4th SYEP successful #MovingForwardTogether Im proud that, as Mayor, I helped the City lead on all three of this weeks big successes getting attention around town: the City put together a bipartisan coalition of local governments and worked with local groups like Champaign County Health Care Consumers and Prairie Rivers Network to advocate to the IEPA to rescind the Clinton Landfill permit for PCBs; the City partnered with 40 North 88 West, Champaign Park District, Smile Politely, and others to create great local festivals that have become tourism draws, and helped Hyatt Place Champaign/Urbana establish itself downtown; and, the City partnered with Champaign Unit 4 Schools and local small business owners to create and grow the Summer Youth Employment Program that gives high school students hands-on career training. I cant put into words how proud and grateful I am for all the many, many people and organizations that helped make this week one to celebrate Champaigns success. When we work together, we accomplish great things. Thank you to the wonderful citizens of the city of Champaign for making my job as mayor so rewarding, and much easier than that of being mayor of any other city. Thank you, Champaign, and lets keep moving forward together!
