Exclusive – Arsenal Invincible refuses to separate Henry and Bergkamp – ‘It’s like choosing my favourite child!’ Arsenal legend Thierry Henry will go down in history as one of the Premier League’s all-time greats, former Gunners full-back Lauren has told talkSPORT. The French hero announced his retirement from football on Tuesday at the age of 37, bringing an end to a remarkable 20 years in the game. Henry enjoyed a trophy-laden career, winning top honours in the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, La Liga, World Cup and European Championships. And Lauren believes it was his team-mate’s winning mentality and consistency on the pitch which set him apart as one of the game’s greatest talents. “Thierry was phenomenal, an unbelievable player,” the former defender, a key member of Arsenal’s legendary ‘Invincibles’ side, told Drivetime. “He had everything, he was technically brilliant and had the pace of a striker too, but what I liked most about him was his mentality. “There are many good players with a lot of qualities, but for Thierry it was his winning mentality which made him great. “He wanted to win everything - on the pitch, on the training ground, when we were playing cards - and when he didn’t win he got frustrated. “That was the difference. There are many good players out there, but how many perform consistently at the highest level week in, week out? “Henry had that and that’s why he became the player he was. “He is one of the greatest players to ever play in the Premier League, for sure, and it was a privilege to play with such an amazing player. Henry is one of Arsenal’s modern greats to be immortalised outside the Emirates Stadium, along with fellow legendary forward Dennis Bergkamp. But, when asked who he thought was a better player, Lauren refused the separate the two Gunners heroes. He added: “Look, what you’re asking me is like asking me who I love more, my daughter or my son - you cannot choose! “They were both great players but Henry became Arsenal’s greatest scorer for a reason. I just feel privileged to have played with both.” Pimpa
