Excuse me, greeting from Bali! I would like to inform you that Faculty of Medicine Udayana University in Bali is so excited to present you the Bali International Summer School 2014. Expand knowledge and exchange cultures through Travel Medicine. It’s undoubtedly going to be your best summer experience. Bali International Summer School is a one-week program of activities held by the International Affair Department of Student Executive Board, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University in Bali. This event firstly held in August 2012, so this year is a third year of our program. Our main theme of this year is “Knowing the Prevention of Tropical Diseases for Traveler through Socio-Culture Approach”. Where and when? Bali International Summer School will be held start from 7th August until 13th August 2014. The program will take place in several places, mostly in Faculty of Medicine – Udayana University, and also in many tourism places in Bali such as: Ubud Tanjung Benoa Denpasar City Uluwatu Jimbaran Program overview? What are the topics in Bali International Summer School 2014 ? Principle Prevention of Tropical Diseases for Traveler Traveling to Bali as a tropical region is very amazing! And it’s important to stay healthy while traveling. There are many kinds of infectious disease that could be harm for us. But, we don’t need to worry. For dealing with tropical diseases, we need to improve our knowledge about that, and that will be introduced to you in a simple and fun lectures and workshops. As an introduction we will give you lecture about principle prevention of tropical disease which is very important to know! Prophylaxis for Viral Infection Traveling especially in the open nature is very please. We can see the beautiful scenery, explore the nature, meeting new people, tasting delicious foods, many more! It’s an amazing experience, isn’t it? But be aware that small creatures like viruses can infect you anywhere. Viral infection is such a common diseases, no matter where you are, or in any condition, even when you’re traveling. Moreover, when we doing some trips with outdoor activity we can easily be bitten by mosquitoes that may cause Dengue fever. One more common viral infection is Influenza. Ouch! Runny nose must be really annoying! Not to mention the risk of Hepatitis A virus transmission as a food-borne disease, or any other kind of Hepatitis virus infections. Our happy trip can turn into unpleasant one. But don’t worry, in order to deal with those virus infections, we will give you lectures about viral infection such as Dengue, Influenza and also Hepatitis. Prophylaxis for Bacterial and Parasitic Infection Enjoy the vacation fully without disturbed by a bacteria or parasites in your body! The diseases sound simply can be cured, but it can simply kill you as well if you don’t precisely understand. They may not be just an ordinary diseases, they may be Malaria, Salmonellosis, or Helminthic infection. So let’s learn about them and how to deal with them. The prophylaxis management will also be nice to know! Rabies: An Endemic Disease in Bali Stay healthy with funny and cute dogs! Do you love animals? Yes, everyone does. Maybe some of animals look very cute, but you should be aware to their behavior especially when they suddenly bite you with no reason. They probably have been infected by a dangerous virus called “rabies”, and this virus could be transmitted to you through animal’s bite. What should you do next? Is there any vaccination to prevent it? Can it be cured? What are the characteristics of animal with rabies virus? Dogs, cats, wolves, foxes, coyotes, jackals, raccoons, skunks and also bats around you may become the reservoirs of rabies virus. All of the questions about zoonosis, especially rabies will be answered in our lecture and workshop. So, don’t miss it! Who is eligible to join this program? Bali International Summer School is open to all medical student and students who do not study in medical school but still have importance in dealing with health problems.
