Excuse the language but this is what common core math processing looks like to me. But my 4 year old son today did multiple digit addition and subtraction (up to the tens place) after only learning the steps 24hrs ago. why? you may ask (ok you might not have asked) because when given multiple choice aided to his basic knowledge of numbers and sets, he knows that some stuff is just not plausible in his basic math application. Ie. He would look at the above problem and see two empty sets of ten (20 boxes total) and determine in his head that 9 is next to 10, then see the two sets as 20 and know ...just freaking know it was 19 and not 21! because that would be over 20 boxs or the 2 sets of ten he was provided with visually in his mind. See... where his math skills are lacking, visual common sense takes over in my sons 4 year old brain. #smh #thissaddensme.
