If you are unaware of how to contact your District Governor, please reference j24usa/j24-fleet/district-fleet-contacts/ Class Rule Change Proposal Submitted by Tim Winger, ITC J24 Class Rule 5 Current Rule 5 Crew 5.1 The crew shall consist of not less than three persons. 5.2 The crew weight in swim wear shall not exceed 400kg. 5.3 A crew nominated or listed for a regatta or a series of races held over consecutive days including any lay days, shall remain the same throughout the event unless crew substitution is specified in the notice of Race. Proposed Change 5 Crew 5.1 The crew shall consist of not less than three persons. 5.2 The crew weight in swim wear shall not exceed 340kg. 5.3 A crew nominated or listed for a regatta or a series of races held over consecutive days including any lay days, shall remain the same throughout the event unless crew substitution is specified in the notice of Race. Reason The 400kg crew mostly targets a crew of five. The 340kg crew targets a crew of four. Four crew are all it takes to handle a J24 and the boat performs better with the lighter crew weight. Lowering crew weight will cause transition to the jib from the genoa at a lower wind speed, thus saving wear and tear on the genoa that use in higher winds would impart. This extends sail life and saves cost. Traveling to regattas with four crew is less expensive. This change has the support of J Boats. J24 Class Association j24usa
