Executive producer of Byker Grove Julian Scott has reflected on the show as it marks its 25th anniversary. Byker Grove – a teen drama set in Newcastle – is celebrating the milestone with a Byker Grove: All Grown Up, an event at Tyneside Cinema hosted by the Royal Television Society. In an interview with The Independent Scott, who was also a floor manager on Grange Hill, has said that it was wrong to pull the plug on the show. Calling it a ‘catastrophic mistake’ to axe the show in 2006, he said: ‘It was access to information through a medium that young people could understand and characters that they liked. ‘Without that, they lost a voice.’ Many famous faces cut their teeth on the Geordie Shore, including Jill Halfpenny, Denise Welch and Charlie Hunnam. Oh, and Ant and Dec of course.
