Exelis Visual Information Solution (Exelis VIS) is pleased to announce the opportunity for a high-calibre Earth Observation Specialist to join the UK team for a 6 or 12 month industry placement. The individual shall be one of either: - a current under- or post-graduate student wishing to work in a supervised industry capacity; or - a recent graduate who is looking to further the necessary conceptual and technical remote sensing skills to pursue a career in Earth Observation. The post, aimed at providing the successful candidate with a varied and in-depth role in earth observation image processing applications and techniques, shall enable existing students to take forward their pre-existing expertise and research using the fullest functionality and workflows as provided by the ENVI suite of image processing products. Around this, the role shall also require the successful individual to conduct exploratory R&D effort for Exelis VIS clients, thereby demonstrating the diverse and rigorous functions and applications available to users of the ENVI Platform. The successful Remote Sensing / Earth Observation Specialist shall possess the following skills: - Hold a relevant degree in Remote Sensing, GIS and/or Environmental Science, or be working towards one at under- or post-graduate level; - Possess a strong understanding of the broad fundamentals of remote sensing; - Possess a sound conceptual and practical understanding of one or more end-to-end workflows taking raw Earth Observation data into meaningful application specific GIS data output; - Have the ability to dissect the components of a challenge set by an Exelis VIS client, undertake independent research against each of the dissected components, construct a conceptual workflow to execute, determine how such a workflow might be met using the ENVI suite of products, and with guidance - execute that workflow; - Be a self-motivated and proactive individual with sound time and priority management skills. Exelis VIS shall provide mentoring, ICT equipment and relevant software licensing for the duration of the post. The role is unpaid part-time or full-time in the Bracknell offices, however approved and receipted expenses will be paid on submission of valid and authorised receipts.
