Exercise In Respect of Age and Time Exercise = live life healthily, Poem from The Friday Man Chapter 4 : Run for your life For the last 12 months in my life itinerary, I started participating in walks and run for charity, Initiated by my company’s HR, A wellness program for the employees, If I can remember clearly, My first was a 3km walk organised by a Pharmacy, Aside with colleagues, I brought my wife with me, An activity that changes my lifestyle eventually, More walks and runs I participated subsequently, Having interactions and outdoor activities……, Foster closer relationship with my colleagues, away from work and duties, At the same time, building a healthier body, Participation is mainly on 3km walk and 5km fun run activities, With my colleague Wei Leang, my running buddy, We decided to test our capabilities recently, At 11km distance run, we participated whole-heartedly, Despite we are not in the handicapped category, Myself “retired” from sports activity since I was twenty, The only sport I played occasionally, Will be Sports Toto, during CNY especially. As for Wei Leang, my running buddy, He had some old injuries, To his leg, a slow process to recovery, But our desire, spread like wild fire. For 11km run distance, is peanut to many, But for both of us, we don’t take it lightly, “What the mind conceive and belief it will be achieve philosophy, We intend to finish the run completely. That morning, men and women - in full gear accessories, There are even foreigners too, competing equally, Many have been sweating profusely, As having a good warm up is necessary, First to flag off was the women category, Before long, off we go and I started slowly, Eventually, I lost sight of my running buddy, During this running journey, I saw great things of many, From couples running together with their baby, ( secured in baby strollers....), the couples ran swiftly, To uncles and aunties, way past their sixties, They ran faster, ahead of many, With stamina greater than you and me, A motivation I needed strongly, This awakens the giant in me, Should I continue running consistently. I should be fit upon reaching sixty, To do what they did currently, It’s never too late to start exercising regularly, Importantly, The self-discipline and our own consistency, And a great sport buddy….to kick start when Im lazy, It is also during this journey, I learned that when you’re in competition of any, Winning against your rivals are not the priority, But against oneself, the ultimate winning strategy, For, if one can improve performance over the last, And be better off from the previous, It’s a big win already, For you have given your best out there. As commented by Wei Leang, my running buddy, When you have choices, choose the best, When you have no choice, do your best! Certain things…..you have no one but yourself to work it out. You have sweat your entire muscles, And exhilarate every cell of your body, Every fibre, every single stamina, …..and remember despite finishing last, You’re a Champion! I finished my 11km run with 1:32mins with 3 stops and had sore muscles and pain all over my body that lasted for 4 days. This is just the beginning of more to come…………No Pain No Gain.
