Exercising Your Prayer Muscles Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 NKJV Not everyone can perform a violin concerto with a symphony orchestra. Nor can everyone play professional basketball or paint a beautiful landscape. Unique gifts and skills are required to participate in certain activities. Not so with prayer. Anyone can pray, regardless of gender, skill, or stature. The only requirements are commitment and consistency. Think about it: You can become a woman or man of prayer. Rather than a gift that is on display, prayer is like a muscle that is exercised. The more you pray, the more natural it feels and the stronger you become. The less you pray, the more unnatural it feels and the weaker you become. Well-toned prayer muscles work all the time. While prayerful people may schedule blocks in their schedule for one-on-one time with God, their daily lives literally become a prayer. During a free moment in their schedule, they enjoy a quick God-directed conversation. When they drive by a car accident, they whisper a short request. And all of this occurs without much forethought.
